CSI IP Reputation Remediation Portal

FAQ: (Back to the IP statistics reset request form)

Why is my IP address listed?

  • Lots of hosting providers will use a shared resource for their website products. If other users are sending mail out from the same IP address as you, their sending patterns could be the reason for the poor reputation.

Is there any action I should take right now?

  • Complete the IP statistics reset request form. You may also wish to check that the reverse DNS (PTR record) for the IP address you are requesting remediation on is valid and present. Common errors include:
    • example.local - .local is not a valid top level domain on in the Internet
    • my_server.example.com - the underscore character is not valid in hostnames
  • Additionally it may be that not all the nameservers that are authoritative for your domain, are returning the same or expected data; you should check the output from each nameserver.

I'm not receiving mails from my contacts but they are receiving mine, why?

  • CSI is applied to inbound mail only so the sender should have received a bounce message or other error log pointing them to this remediation portal. It is preferable that they fill in the remediation request since we will then have their contact details and will be able to liaise with them if further information is required or they need further assistance.

My mail server is not sending spam, why am I listed?

  • If you are certain that you are not responsible for the sending of any spam you may complete the IP statistics reset request form. However, if you are an ISP, Web hoster or you send newsletters via this IP you may wish to consider signing up for the various feedback loops (FBLs) that some ISPs offer. Reviewing and acting on the data generated by these reports in a timely manner will likely help improve your CSI reputation. https://wordtothewise.com/isp-information has links to the various FBLs offered and who to sign up for them.

We aren't blacklisted anywhere else, why are you blocking us?

  • CSI is not a blacklist; it is an IP reputation system, based on data such as user feedback from the Cloudmark community, email sent to spamtraps, heuristics regarding reverse DNS and nearby IP addresses, and other factors, which is used by our customers to assist them in making policy decisions on how they handle inbound mail. Some customers, depending on the reputation of your IP, may choose to reject your mail. You can complete the IP statistics reset request form if you believe that your reputation is incorrect.

We have only recently been assigned this IP, will you please unblock us?

  • If this is the case, please complete the IP statistics reset request form and also provide us with details of your full IP allocation along with the date when these IPs were assigned to you.

Do I need to configure reverse DNS?

  • Many ISPs do not accept messages from IPs with no reverse DNS (rDNS). Sending messages from an IP address with no rDNS may negatively affect your Cloudmark reputation score, as well as your reputation with ISPs and DNS blacklists. For the best message delivery rate, ensure that all outbound IPs are configured with rDNS.
  • SpamHaus publishes these useful guidelines for configuring rDNS: http://www.spamhaus.org/faq/section/ISP%2520Spam%2520Issues#128
